iPhone 5

Here’s my quick and dirty iPhone 5 review.

I’ve owned iPhone 1, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, and now iPhone 5. I skipped 3G and 4S. This upgrade was by far the most substantial I’ve experienced. In short, the iPhone 5 is the greatest phone ever invented and lives up to and exceeds my wildest expectations.

1. Form Factor - Somehow they made the phone substantially larger and smaller at the same time. The screen is wonderful. How did I live with 3.5”? I have no idea. And yet, its significantly lighter and thinner than the iPhone 4/4S body.

2. Speed - The combination of LTE (significantly faster than my cable modem) and faster hardware make it fly. Even basic things like sending text messages are noticeably faster. It’s just so damn fast.

3. Maps - Don’t believe the hype. Apple Maps is better than Google Maps, despite the data errors and lack of transit directions. The 3D satellite view is stunning. Like Google Earth but much better. Once they clear the bugs out, everyone will love it. I don’t think the general public appreciates the complexity of mapping software.

This is the best phone ever.
