My investment in Open Air Publishing
I met Jon Feldman in 2007 when he was Director of Marketing and BD at CollegeHumor and I interviewed for and later became the GM of BustedTees. We lived on the same block in the East Village and often walked together to our Union Square office.
What struck me about Jon right away was his endless energy. The guy is an idea machine which sometimes overwhelmed me, but his energy extended to execution as well. Jon did great things for CollegeHumor. In 2008 he left the company to go to Wharton and then joined a top-tier consulting firm.
But he missed the start-up life and quit after six months to start a publishing company. He built a great team, including Amir Cohen, the guy who introduced me to Petra 5 years ago tomorrow (7/13/07), and set out to leverage iOS technology to make the learning experience better. Jon’s team pumped out a few really cool titles so far including one about Cameras, one about Cocktails, and one about Bacon. They’re going to make half a dozen more by the end of the year.
I’m not really an “angel investor” but when I see friends that I believe in taking the plunge (with a clear revenue model), I want to be part of it. I made a small investment in Jon’s vision and I look forward to being part of OAP’s exciting journey. Click the image above to read their Techcrunch announcement.
