Marathon: Postponed

This is a letter I just sent to all my marathon donors:

Dear Supporter,

It disappoints me to inform you that due to an injury I will not be running the NYC Marathon this weekend. On the morning of October 1st, just hours after my last email to you, I woke up with a pain in my left foot. I took a few days off but the pain persisted, and a visit to an Orthopedist revealed “left peroneal tendonitis/strain.” I hoped the pain would dissipate by now, but it hasn’t and with only a few days to go, it is clear now that it will be impossible for me to run this weekend.

So what now?

Because we did so well with our fund-raising efforts, the MMRF has graciously offered me a spot on their 2010 team, so mark November 7th 2010 on your calendars. As soon as my foot is well enough to run (I would estimate sometime in December), I will resume my training schedule. I have my sights set on a bunch of Half Marathons in the next year, starting with the New York City Half Marathon on March 21st.

My injury is a temporary setback; an important lesson I will look back on fondly after I’ve run 5, 10, 20+ marathons. I was initially pretty upset about it, but running is a lifelong pursuit and this is only the first chapter. I have a lot to show for this first effort and I’m more excited than ever to get back out there and continue my training. I want to thank you all again so much for your donations to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. I will keep you updated on my progress and notify you of possible Josh-Running sightings in the near and distant future.

376 days until NYC Marathon 2010!!
Josh
