Running the Marathon
100 days from today, I am going to run the New York City Marathon to raise money for the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. The MMRF funds cancer research (see details below) and is supported by private donations.
If you can, please donate $20 (or more!) here now.
You may recall a few months ago that I started training for the Half Marathon. That’s been going extremely really well and so I’ve decided to extend my training 14 weeks and run the full 26.2 miles on November 1st.
Those who know me personally might find it hard to believe that I could run such a long distance. I’ve always been slightly to not-so-slightly over weight and not athletic at all. When I started this process I could barely run 2 miles. Last Sunday I ran 8 miles very comfortably.
About 18 months ago my grandmother was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. She’s an extremely tough lady and she is recovering in part due to scientific advancements in cancer treatment. Cancer effects all humans everywhere. The odds that you or someone you love will get cancer during your lifetime are practically 100%. The way we fight as a community is by supporting scientific research to beat these diseases. And so, in my grandmother’s honor please help me in raising a significant amount of money for the MMRF. My goal is to raise $20 from 200 people, but hopefully we will raise much more. Click here to join my support team.
Here’s a little bit about the MMRF:
- As the world’s number-one funder of multiple myeloma research, the MMRF has raised more than $102 million to fund 70 laboratories worldwide.
- The MMRF is one of the most effective and efficient organizations of its kind, as evidenced by our exceptional accreditations. Nearly 94% of every dollar of revenue raised is directed toward myeloma research and related educational programs.
- The MMRF is making things happen NOW: four new treatment advances — Thalomid®, Velcade®, Revlimid®, and Doxil® — have helped extend the life expectancy of myeloma patients from four years to almost seven.
- Because of their success in treating multiple myeloma patients, these drugs are now being explored as treatment for 19 other cancers as well.
This is the best $20 you’ll spend today. Click here and donate now.
Thank you :)
